Gunna pens open letter to fans and public proclaiming his innocence

A month after his arrest on racketeering charges, Gunna penned an open letter to his fans on social media that 2022 has been one of the best years of his life, “despite this difficult situation.”

“This year I had the whole world pushing P,” Gunna said in his letter.

Gunna, whose real name is Sergio Kitchens, proclaimed his innocence in the letter and said that the picture being painted of him is “ugly and untrue.”

“For now, I don’t have my freedom. But I am innocent. I am being falsely accused and will never stop fighting to clear my name!” the message says.

Attorney Kristen Novay, who’s representing Gunna, confirmed that the message was posted on his behalf for his birthday Tuesday.

“It’s important for him to have a voice,” she said, adding that her client does not have access to a cellphone in jail.

Gunna was among more than two dozen people charged last month in an 88-page indictment in Georgia’s Fulton County. Also indicted was rapper Young Thug who’s accused of founding Young Slime Life, which prosecutors claim is a violent street gang affiliated with the national Bloods gang.

“As a Black man in America, it seems as though my art is only acceptable when I’m a source of entertainment for the masses,” Gunna wrote. “My art is not allowed to stand alone as entertainment, I’m not allowed that freedom as a Black man in America.

Gunna, who is signed to Young Thug’s record label Young Stoner Life, scored his second No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart this year with his third studio album “DS4Ever.”

“Nothing will stop me from chasing my dreams, I won’t stop being a good person, even if some unnamed and unknown accusers want the world to see me as a bad person,” Gunna said in his letter.

“We still pushing P: Power, Prayer, Progress, Passion, Productivity, Praise, Precision, Peace, Prosperity, Patience, Pride and Persistence.”
